Our burgee shows the red hibiscus on a white background because, at the time it was designed, Vero Beach was known as the Hibiscus City. The hoist and fly were also red and the burgee should be flown with the pistil of the hibiscus up. Recently (Feb 2014)the flag was modified to show a better representation of the Hibiscus flower
